10 Places You Must Fully Enjoy in a Lifetime

10 Places You Must Fully Enjoy in a Lifetime

“Live life to the fullest” – this is a motto that’s truer now than ever before.

For some, this might equate to traveling to as many countries as possible in their lifetime. For others, it could mean simply crossing off destinations from their bucket list. Whatever it means to you, here’s a compilation of special places you must experience in your lifetime, as shared by travel professionals from around the world, shedding light on why these destinations are so exceptional.

1 | Walt Disney World, USA

Disney World is known as the “happiest place on Earth” and is often considered a vacation destination for families with children. If Mickey Mouse knows how to do one thing perfectly, it’s bringing out the child in all of us. From the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival to the Disney World Marathon and the thrill of riding attractions for some old-fashioned fun, there’s always a reason to visit this magical kingdom, regardless of your age.

“Now, Disney World is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and I’ve been fortunate enough to experience it firsthand. The parks are filled with unique experiences, decorations, and merchandise celebrating the ‘Most Magical Celebration on Earth,’ and it’s definitely something you don’t want to miss!” – Missy

2 | Cruises

Cruises are destinations in themselves, more than just floating hotels, they can take you from one place to another—it’s an unparalleled experience. Plus, the best part about cruises is that you can choose the cruise that suits you and the vacation you want. Luxury or seclusion? Fun for the whole family?

“I believe cruises are a top destination to consider. Today’s cruises are destinations themselves as they’re built as floating cities. Many cruise ships offer world-class entertainment, gyms, top-notch dining, and shopping experiences, combined with exotic port stops, it’s all wrapped up in one!” – Kathy

3 | Tokyo, Japan

As the largest metropolis in the world, Tokyo may initially seem overwhelming, but if you look beyond the skyscrapers, city lights, and fast pace, you’ll find the local culture and people themselves are a part of it. While visiting famous landmarks is awe-inspiring, sometimes just engaging in the everyday life of the locals, even if just a bit, can be enriching.

“I used to live in Tokyo and commuted from home to work on the JR train line. On my way to work, I would stop at a small husband-and-wife vendor on the train platform to buy a bento box for lunch. On my way back home from work, I would change trains and platforms, usually with about 15 minutes between trains. I would go to a standing-only ramen counter, order one of the soups they offered, quickly slurp it down at the counter with others, and then rush to catch my connecting train. I loved this ritual, getting to know the local community as much as possible makes the world feel different.” – Todd

4 | Dominican Republic (Punta Cana)

Sometimes overshadowed by other Caribbean destinations, the Dominican Republic is known not only for its pristine white beaches and vibrant nightlife and dancing but also for its outdoor adventures, architecture, and lively culture. Punta Cana is especially renowned for its excellent scuba diving and snorkeling opportunities.

“My home country, the Dominican Republic, has it all, from beautiful beaches to delicious food. Another place I recommend in the DR is Bahía de las Águilas in the Pedernales province—a lesser-known area but well worth a visit.” – Mio

5 | Lake Louise, Canada

Another awe-inspiring North American destination is Lake Louise in Banff National Park. Whether you’re enjoying water activities and hiking in the summer or ice skating and skiing in the winter, the lake’s pristine turquoise hues and captivating mountainous terrain will leave you breathless.

“Highly recommend hiking up to the Tea House at Lake Agnes to see deer, and then soaking in the nearby hot springs.” – iYen

6 | Italy

While it might seem like a must-visit destination, Italy’s allure goes far beyond its iconic big cities and Tuscan vineyards. Among the more popular destinations, there are smaller, sometimes overlooked gems like Pompeii that are well worth a visit. Besides the obvious archaeological site visits, the region is brimming with enchanting experiences.

“We climbed Mt. Vesuvius and stopped at a local restaurant on the mountain to have pizza. The tomatoes were grown in the fertile soil from the volcanic eruption years ago. It was the best sauce I ever tasted!” – Kara

One of Italy’s most unexpected jewels is the Monte Cassino and its World War II cemetery.

“I’ve driven up Monte Cassino about three times in my life and we’ll try again next summer. It’s a tough drive, but the monastery is a beauty. The Benedictine order, with origins over 1500 years, was actually built on top of the Temple of Apollo. It’s a key position on the Gustav Line and saw countless battles on its slopes. The building was completely destroyed in the war, and many non-combatants died there. We have relatives in the area; I know people who perished in the Battle of Monte Cassino, and others who helped rebuild the building after it was destroyed. The most touching moment is reading the markers in the cemetery behind it. Many have inscriptions that remember the specific deeds and personalities of each soldier buried below. I still remember that moment 35 years ago.” – Mike

7 | India

India might not be the top choice for most travelers, but to put it simply, it should be. From architectural marvels and diverse landscapes to extraordinary cuisine and warm hospitality you’ve never experienced before, India is known to leave a lasting impression on all who visit.

“It’s hard to pick one city in India, because it’s an experience of the entire country. India is often an overlooked travel destination, but it shouldn’t be! What resonates with me so much about India is the humanity and peace of the people. Their whole spiritual essence calls for acceptance of everyone, no matter their religion, race, or station in life. The beauty and diversity of the land are awe-inspiring—majestic and opulent in the North, lush and fertile in the South. Anyone I’ve encountered (including staunchly anti-tourist industry individuals) who has gone and come back has been changed in the most wonderful way.” – Susanna

8 | Glacier National Park, USA

The surge in popularity of national parks in recent months is no secret, but if you’re looking to visit a park that stands out from the rest, Glacier National Park will make you feel like you’re in a completely different country.

“The Going-to-the-Sun Road from West Glacier to Logan Pass is a truly unique experience. It’s not only filled with adventure and endless hiking options, but the drive is absolutely stunning. You get to take in snow-capped peaks and vast valleys, breathtaking waterfalls and lakes, and the magnificent views of pristine glaciers. Unexpectedly, the pass opened on our very last day. We ended up partway on the Hidden Lake Overlook trail (still snow-covered) in our water shoes, completely unprepared after our white-water rafting. We might not have made it to the end of the hike, but we had a blast along the way with several bouts of laughter (and slipping). Plus, we saw mountain goats!” – Alex

9 | France

Perhaps the most iconic allure of France is the Eiffel Tower, as succinctly put by travel professional Heather. Even if you’re far away from the tourist spots, you can admire the Eiffel Tower from a distance. Even the most cynical among us must admit that the tower’s sparkling lights at dusk have a magic that makes you fall in love with the “City of Love.” As a travel professional, Misi says, “No other city is quite like Paris. It’s the ultimate destination for a romantic getaway, strolling down the streets, relaxing in cafés, and taking in the breathtaking beauty.”

But just 4.5 hours southeast of Paris and less than two hours southwest of Geneva is a gem—Lyon.

“In early December, Lyon hosts the Festival of Lights or ‘Fête des Lumières,’ which is a truly unique and special experience. For about two days, the buildings, mountains, and more in Lyon are covered in light displays synchronized with music—a truly spectacular and magical start to the holiday season.” – Liz

10 | East Africa

As one of the adventure travel hotspots, East Africa has several countries that are worth exploring, particularly Kenya and Tanzania. Whether you’re looking to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, go on a safari, or delve into African cultures, East Africa is an ideal destination for travelers who are eager to step out of their comfort zones.

“My two favorite destinations are Kenya and Tanzania. The main inhabitants of the vast grasslands and plains are not humans but animals, and it’s a marvel of nature. I’ll never forget the sound of hippos chewing at night, lulling me to sleep in my luxurious tented camp ‘lodge’.” – Susanna
